How University Student Fees Fund Student Healthcare Services

The University Health Center is partially funded through University Program and Facilities Fees.

Students who pay these fees receive:

  • Certain healthcare services for NO EXTRA CHARGE
  • Most healthcare services at DISCOUNTED RATES, compared to community rates

Note: The University Program and Facilities Fees are completely separate from the StudentBlue Student Health Insurance Plan premium.


During the Academic Year
August 25-
May 8, 2015
  • The University Program and Facilities Fee for the University Health Center is $150.81 per semester.
  • This fee is automatically included in tuition costs for all students taking 7 or more credit hours each semester.
  • Students taking less than 7 credit hours can pay the $150.81 per semester fee at the University Health Center.
During the Summer
May 9-
August 23, 2015
  • The University Program and Facilities Fee for the University Health Center is $56.
  • This fee is automatically included in tuition costs for students taking 6 or more credit hours any time during the summer term.
  • Students taking less than 6 credit hours can pay the $56 fee at the University Health Center.
When No Longer a Student
  • Students are eligible to receive serves at the University Health Center for one semester after they are no longer students.
  • The University Program and Facilities Fee must be paid at the University Health Center.


What University Student Fees Cover

  • Laboratory
  • Physical Therapy
  • Radiology
  • Dental
  • Medical services received outside the University Health Center
    Student fees do not cover after-hours weekend or emergency medical care services. We recommend you contact your insurance company to verify urgent care network participation, benefits, copays and deductibles specific to your plan before seeking care.

Insurance

  1. You are not required to carry medical insurance to use the University Health Center, but are strongly encouraged to do so.

  2. While many services are priced below community rates, medical insurance will often cover a portion or all of these charges depending on your insurance plan.

  3. If you are not covered by a medical insurance plan, the StudentBlue Student Health Insurance Plan is offered through Blue Cross Blue Shield of Nebraska.

  4. BRING YOUR INSURANCE CARD EVERY TIME YOU VISIT THE UNIVERSITY HEALTH CENTER. All patients are encouraged to carry an insurance card at all times in case of emergency.

Insurance Companies We Contract With - Designated as a Preferred Provider

Important Definitions

Preferred Provider = The University Health Center HAS contracted with your insurance company to provide healthcare services to everyone who has your insurance plan. You pay less if you use your insurance plan's preferred providers.

Insurance Claims = The University Health Center will make a formal request to your insurance company asking for payment for services rendered based on the terms of your insurance policy. Insurance claims are reviewed by your insurance company and then paid to the University Health Center once approved.


StudentBlue Student Health Insurance

  • The University Health Center is a Preferred Provider for all services.
  • Covered services are paid at 100%, including most laboratory, physical therapy, radiology, specialty, counseling and psychological services, and annual exam expenses.
  • Claims are filed automatically.
    Unless the patient does not want to use insurance. In this case, the patient will need to pay the entire amount due with their own money.

Blue Cross Blue Shield Insurance (BCBS)

  • The University Health Center is a Preferred Provider for all services.
  • Claims are filed automatically.
    Unless the patient does not want to use insurance. In this case, the patient will need to pay the entire amount due with their own money.

Aetna/Coventry

The University Health Center is a Preferred Provider for ONLY:

  • Medical Clinic
  • Travel Clinic
  • Lab
  • Radiology
  • Physical Therapy
  • Not for Dental, Specialists, CAPS

Claims are filed automatically.
Unless the patient does not want to use insurance. In this case, the patient will need to pay the entire amount due with their own money.

UnitedHealthcare

The University Health Center is a Preferred Provider for ONLY:

  • Medical Clinic
  • Travel Clinic
  • Lab
  • Radiology
  • Physical Therapy
  • Not for Dental, Specialists, CAPS

Claims are filed automatically.
Unless the patient does not want to use insurance. In this case, the patient will need to pay the entire amount due with their own money.

Other Health Insurance

Important Definitions

Out-of-Network Provider = The University Health Center has not contracted with your insurance company to provide healthcare services to everyone who has your insurance plan. However, you can still receive services at the University Health Center even if we are an out-of-network provider.

Insurance Claims = The University Health Center will make a formal request to your insurance company asking for payment for services rendered based on the terms of your insurance policy. Insurance claims are reviewed by your insurance company and then paid to the University Health Center once approved.

If you have other health insurance:

  • The University Health Center is an out-of-network provider.
  • Patient is responsible for all charges not covered by the insurance company.
  • We are more than happy to file claims with any insurance company - for students. You MUST present your insurance card in order to have claims filed by the University Health Center.
  • Insurance-ready bills are available upon request.

Other Insurance Information

If you have a Primary Care Physician (PCP) listed on your insurance card, you normally are required to get a referral from the PCP to receive services anywhere other than their office.

Billing & Payment

If you receive services for which there are charges, your balance due will be listed on the University Health Center Patient Portal.


  1. 30 DAYS AFTER THE DATE OF SERVICE, unpaid charges
    [minus payments the University Health Center has received from your insurance company]
    are transferred to your STUDENT ACCOUNTS CONSOLIDATED BILL
    and will appear on your MyRED account.

  2. The Student Accounts Consolidated Bills are generated and available for viewing by the 25th of each month and are due by the 12th of the following month. Students are notified via email when the bill is ready. Payments can be made on MyRED by online check or credit card.

  3. If you wish to pay at the time of service, the University Health Center accepts the following forms of payment:

    • Cash
    • Check*
    • Credit Card (VISA/MasterCard)
    • Charged to your NCard

*Note: If a check is returned to us as insufficient, we charge a $20.00 fee in addition to adding the amount of the check back to your account.
