The mission of EDEP is to encourage students to move toward an accepting attitude of body size and shape; to educate in the areas of eating disorders, body image and wellness; and to provide resources and referrals on campus. Eating Disorder Education and Prevention (EDEP) is a student association consisting of UNL student volunteers who have an interest in eating disorder awareness and prevention. The focus of EDEP is in the area of eating disorder prevention. One of the goals is to reach those 70 - 80% who may be participating in dangerous behavior. Education may ultimately prevent some from developing a clinical eating disorder.

EDEP has been a recognized student organization on campus since 1998. Through the years the organization has expanded. There is a peer education group, Students Helping Individuals Nurture Esteem, SHINE and a Greek task force, Greeks Promoting Positive Attitudes, GPPA.

The students involved in EDEP reach thousands of UNL students, faculty, staff, alumni and community participants annually. Along with education in the form of bulletin boards, booths in the Unions and bimonthly meetings, EDEP sponsors two main events. During the fall semester EDEP prepares an educational display, Room With A View. Eating Disorder Awareness Week (EDAW) is the organization's largest outreach event. EDAW is held during the spring semester in correlation with the National Eating Disorder Awareness Week.

Currently the advisors to the organization are a registered dietitian and a psychologist, both whom have technical and professional expertise in the area of eating disorders.
