  • ALL scheduled specialty clinic appointments are CANCELLED
  • If you have questions concerning receiving care or your appointment, call 472-5000
For UHC Employees:

Policy: Only essential UHC personnel must report when the University is closed due to inclement weather.

Definition of "essential personnel": UHC staff members who live in town and whose positions involve the provision of direct patient care for UNL students or who staff the Pharmacy. CAPS will have a staff member on call for mental health emergencies, but will not be in the building. (As of the summer of 2006, this would specifically include clinic providers, nurses, front desk, medical records, laboratory tech, radiology tech, and pharmacist. The numbers of individuals is to be determined at the department level.)

  1. Essential personnel must report for duty at the UHC when the University is closed due to inclement weather. The following announcement will be issued by the Director of University Communications: "All classes (night classes) and non-athletic events are cancelled and all offices and clinics are closed at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Only those individuals required to report during weather closedowns should report to work."*
  2. Non-essential personnel are not to report for work unless specifically requested to do so by their supervisor. "Unless a position has been specifically identified as essential during weather closing, the employee should assume their services are not required."*
  3. Essential personnel status must be communicated to the employee at the time of hire or reassignment to a position that is considered essential during a weather closing.*
  4. UHC shall maintain a current list of essential personnel and will share this list with the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs.
  5. If multiple employees hold designated essential positions, their supervisor will notify those who need to report on a given day. Examples: clinic nurses, pharmacists.
  6. Specific changes to normal operations:
    1. Hours of operation will be posted as 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., but exempt employees will stay until the last student is cared for. Doors will be unlocked as per Saturday protocol and locked at 3:30.
    2. Ill or injured students will be seen on a first come, first served basis.
    3. There will be no routine health care unless time permits.
    4. Specialty clinics will be cancelled and specialists will be notified of the policy at the beginning of each academic year.
