Patient-Friendly Billing
Students who pay University Program and Facilities Fees can receive certain University Health Center services at no extra charge. Learn more about covered services.
Services not covered by the fee or services for patients who do not pay the health center fee will be billed at the community rate. Students can submit charges to insurance or pay by cash, check, credit card (Visa or Mastercard) or NCard.
Thirty days after the visit, any unpaid charges will automatically be transferred to the student's consolidated bill on MyRED if they are currently enrolled in classes. Students can pay at the time of service if they choose.

Private Insurance
Check with your insurance company to see if Nebraska Medicine is in-network with your plan. View the complete list of insurance companies. If you have questions about whether a particular charge will be covered by your insurance, contact your insurance company directly at their toll-free number, which is usually located on your insurance card.
Bring your insurance card (or a copy/picture of the front and back sides of the policyholder’s card) with you to every health center appointment.
TRICARE
Students who are dependents on a TRICARE plan may want to consider switching from Prime to Select while they are at UNL. TRICARE Select allows beneficiaries to choose their own TRICARE-authorized provider and manage their own health care. With TRICARE Select, a University Health Center provider will be able to refer the student to see a specialist, which is not possible if the student is on a Prime program.
UNL Student Health Insurance
The university offers a student insurance plan to students called UnitedHealthcare StudentResources. Only international students and certain graduate assistants are automatically enrolled in this plan. Domestic students do not need to waive the plan on their bill.

No Insurance
Health insurance is not required to be treated at the health center. Students who choose not to submit to insurance or do not have insurance can receive a self-pay discount.
Financial assistance is available through Nebraska Medicine. If you are interested in applying for financial assistance, we recommend doing so at least 30 days prior to the date you use health center services as it takes time to complete the process. Only students, not parents, can complete the financial assistance process. For more information and to begin applying, visit the Nebraska Medicine website.
