Planning ahead can help you avoid last-minute stress or missed medications while you’re on spring break. Use this checklist to make sure your health basics are covered before you head out.

Prepare with our pharmacy
Don’t let the fun of spring break make you forget about routine care. Refill any prescriptions you’ll need while you’re away from campus, including daily medications or as-needed prescriptions.

It’s also a good idea to pack a small first-aid kit with essentials like pain relievers and bandages. Depending on your spring break plans, you may also want to grab motion sickness medication, sunscreen and bug spray.

Be proactive
Condoms and dental dams help prevent sexually transmitted infections. Free condoms are available throughout the University Health Center. Even if you don’t plan to be sexually active, a friend might need one!

You may also want to schedule STI testing before you leave or after you return. Doctor-ordered testing for chlamydia, gonorrhea and HIV is confidential and covered through student fees.

Don’t forget the basics

  • Wherever you end up spending spring break, chances are you probably aren’t drinking enough water. Don’t forget to hydrate!
  • Prioritize sleep and regular meals, even if your schedule looks different than usual. Both play a big role in keeping your immune system strong.
  • If you’ve been putting off lingering symptoms or minor injuries, get them taken care of at the University Health Center ahead of time so you can fully enjoy your break.

Staying on campus?
Spring break is a great time to catch up on routine care while campus is quieter. Consider scheduling an annual physical or dental cleaning. Call 402.472.5000 or visit our appointments page to schedule an appointment.
