What to Expect at Your Appointment

When you arrive for your visit, sign in your vehicle information at the greeter desk on level one if you parked in patient parking and then proceed to the check-in desk on level two. A medical receptionist will go over any paperwork you are required to fill out and will then direct you to our waiting area.

A nurse or medical assistant will bring you back from patient waiting to the clinic and:

  • Check your vital signs
  • Ask about your current medications, allergies and tobacco status
  • Discuss the reason for your visit

The provider—a doctor, physician assistant or advanced practice nurse practitioner—will continue the exam. Depending on your concern, they may order labs, X-rays or procedures. It is important to be completely open and honest with your provider to ensure you receive the best care for your concern.

Stop by the check-in desk on your way out if you need to make a follow-up appointment.

Why We May Not Prescribe Antibiotics

When you visit the health center, we will evaluate your symptoms and ask you questions about your concern to determine whether you have a virus or a bacterial infection. If you have a bacterial infection, you will be prescribed antibiotics. If you have a virus, you will not be prescribed antibiotics but may receive recommendations for over-the-counter medications that can help your body fight off the virus. This is because antibiotics are ineffective against viral infections such as colds and flu.

Our providers genuinely want you to feel better. However, we do not prescribe antibiotics unless it is medically necessary because antibiotics will not cure the infection, prevent others from catching it or relieve your symptoms unless you have a bacterial infection. Taking antibiotics unnecessarily can increase your resistance to antibiotics and prevent their effectiveness when you need them to treat a bacterial infection in the future. Learn more.

Not sure if your concern is a viral or bacterial infection? Schedule an appointment with the medical clinic to get evaluated.
