Those enrolled in the university’s student insurance plan through UnitedHealthcare StudentResources (UHCSR) can save money by using their plan at the University Health Center.
Medical
University Health Center
The UHCSR student insurance plan covers 100% of the cost of most medically necessary services at the University Health Center. This includes:
- University pre-enrollment health requirement immunizations and tests
- Medical procedures and annual exams
- Visits with medical specialists (referrals are not needed)*
- Annual optometry exam and refraction (glasses and contacts are not covered)
- Laboratory tests
- X-rays
- Physical therapy
Deductible, coinsurance and copays are waived when you use the health center. You also have an unlimited policy year maximum. However, you are required to pay the University Program and Facilities Fee (UPFF) each semester (Fall, Spring, and Summer) you use the health center.
Off-Campus Health Care Facilities
If you go to an off-campus facility you will be required to pay your deductible, copay and coinsurance:
- $20 copay for office visits outside the health center
- $500 deductible per insured person per policy year outside the health center
- 80%/20% coinsurance outside the health center
- $2,200 maximum out-of-pocket expenses, including deductible, coinsurance and copays
If you visit an urgent care facility, you will have a $75 copay.
Emergency rooms have a $300 copay. An emergency room visit must be a true emergency, or it’s possible coverage could be denied. If this happens, you will be responsible for the full bill, which can be thousands of dollars. Learn more about when to visit the health center, an urgent care facility or a hospital.
Pharmacy
When you use the University Health Center pharmacy, you will have cheaper prescription copays:
- $5 copay for Tier 1 prescriptions at the health center vs. $25 copay at off-campus drug store (insurance prefers you to be on)
- $30 copay for Tier 2 prescriptions vs. $50 copay at off-campus drug store (not as preferred)
- $80 copay for Tier 3 prescriptions vs. $100 copay at off-campus drug store (not preferred) and some aren’t covered
The UHCSR insurance plan determines which medicines are Tier 1, Tier 2, Tier 3 or not covered. Tier 1 means the medicine is most preferred by the insurance plan and will be offered at the lowest cost to you. Tier 2 means the medicine is second most preferred and will be slightly more expensive than a Tier 1 option. Tier 3 is the least preferred medicine and will cost the most of any preferred prescription. Some medications may not be covered by the insurance plan, which means you will be responsible for the full cost.
To inquire about which tier your prescription falls under, contact the UHCSR University of Nebraska insurance advocate, Megan Bednar: 1.866.351.4262, unebraskaadvocates@uhcsr.com.
Dental
The dental benefit under the UHCSR plan includes:
- $1,000 in dental services coverage per calendar year
- Two healthy mouth cleanings, two exams and one set of bit wing X-ray per year (100% of the cost is covered by the plan and these services come out of your $1,000 policy year maximum)
- Coinsurance applies for other covered services
